Reading and Singing News

Unitarian? What's That? written by Rev. Clifford M Reed and published by Lindsey Press has been revised for 2011 based on questions that people have asked when encountering Unitarians for the first time. Essex Hall, 1-6 Essex Street, London WC2R 3HY, sells it for £2.50 but five copies are available for £10 for congregations. There are presently some older online introductions that can be read for nothing, and The Elements of Unitarianism by George D. Chryssides (2007) is the full book (out of date regarding the legal situation with Civil Partnerships and thus gay blessings).

There are five hundred copies left of the hymn book supplement Sing Your Faith, also from Lindsey Press, with 231 hymns and songs with words and music and many of recent material including from living Unitarian writers and composers covering contemporary as well as traditional themes. I must say I like it and as much as Hymns for Living. Some of you liberal Anglicans and others don't know what you are missing. Some 'Words for Worship' are included in the book and detailed indices, including a subject index. The price is a very good £10 though I also paid £2.50 for postage and packing.

Resources books, With Heart & Mind, two of them, provide mini-essays with prayers or reflections on a wide range of subjects. They come from the Worship Panel of the General Assembly. It is £10 for both or £6 and £7 for book 1 and book 2 respectively.

Some of a creedless exploratory mindset might fancy being a Unitarian & Free Christian minister or a lay pastor/leader. In summer the Ministry Commission is holding Inquiry Days for those thinking about it and those near to a decision. In London the venue is Essex Church, Kensington on Saturday
June 11th, 11:00 for 11.30 start to 3.30pm, and in Manchester the venue is Luther King House on Wednesday 24th August 11:00 for 11.30 start to 3.30pm. Book before June 1st for London and 14th August for Manchester. Information comes from Mary-Jean Hennis at Unitarian General Assembly, Essex Hall, 1-6 Essex Street, London WC2R 3HY, 020 7240 2384 mhennis@unitarian.org.uk for email.
